The wave of volunteers from the Institute leaves today for Cameroon, led by Pandit Rajmani. They’ll be joined by several more Institute team members from India in the coming weeks, forming the next wave of staff living at the HI Community Center.

Renovations are deep underway at the HI Community Center in Cameroon. Most of the major changes are still under wraps until the grand opening on October 13th, but here’s a sneak preview of one of the first visible signs of transformation. The campus surrounding the HI Community Center has been significantly landscaped, including construction of a new gate, guardhouse and fence.

 It was all fun and games for the HI Community Center team when the Milano Kumbo Sports Academy hosted their annual Summer Vacations Sports Finals. Milano Kumbo Sports Academy is a leading local organization dedicated to youth sports and fitness activities. Justice Mbenkum Roland Kiven, president of the Kumbo High Court and founding president of the group, is a close friend of the HI Community Center. When he mentioned the upcoming finals, the HI Community Center team was inspired to volunteer their services to help make the event a great success. Soon they found themselves serving in a variety of roles, including as emergency medics, ambulance service, and official prize distributors!

 The HI Community Center is proud to host the newly established (and first) chapter of Rotary International in Kumbo, Cameroon. The Rotary chapter in Honesdale, Pennsylvania (where the Institute is headquartered) generously supported the establishment of the HI Community Center in Cameroon. Inspired by Rotary’s spirit of service and the leadership of several Honesdale Rotary members who were also members of the Institute, local members and friends of the HI Community Center founded the Kumbo Rotary chapter
